How to remotely block your MTN SIM card using USSD in case it's stolen or lost

MTN has introduced a convenient method for blocking SIM cards remotely, particularly in cases where they have been stolen. This process eliminates the need to visit an MTN office in person. Previously, individuals would have to rush to the nearest MTN office or contact MTN customer service at 180 to block their stolen SIM cards, providing evidence of ownership. However, MTN has now made it possible to block your line from the comfort of your own home.

     Here's how it works:

  1. Dial 12374 from any MTN phone, or dial *123# (MTN's self-service USSD code). Follow the prompts to input '7' for Self-Service and '4' for Block Stolen or Lost SIM in order to access the service.
  2. There are two options available to access this service:

    a. Block Your Line Through MTN PIN: You will need to enter your MTN Secure PIN, which is the same PIN used for MTN Share.

    b. Answering Security Questions: You will need to correctly answer three security questions to validate ownership of the line. If your answers are incorrect, you will be advised to visit the nearest MTN Store to block the SIM.

  3. If your SIM card is successfully locked, no activity can be carried out on the blocked SIM until you visit an MTN office for reactivation or SIM card replacement.

It's important to note that this service is free of charge and can be accessed through MTN's self-service platform via USSD. This development aims to make the process of blocking stolen SIM cards more convenient and accessible to MTN customers.
